Fentanyl Poisoning Arrest for Murder

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Ryan Marcuse

File # WI211260051

Details:

On May 6, 2021, about 5:10 PM, personnel from the Lake Elsinore Station assigned to the city of Wildomar were dispatched to a call of an unresponsive male adult in the 23000 block of Peggy Lane. Upon deputies’ arrival, it was determined a 32-year-old male was not breathing and was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. That deceased male was later identified as Shane Carlin, a resident of the city of Wildomar. The case was ultimately assumed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Overdose Death Investigations and Narcotics Unit (ODIN), as it was determined Carlin was a victim of a Fentanyl poisoning.

Over the next several months, the investigation was relentlessly worked and a suspect, Alexander Magos, a 27-year-old male resident of Murrieta, was identified as being the responsible for selling the Fentanyl that killed Carlin.

On October 27, 2022, ODIN personnel located Magos in the city of Murrieta and took him into custody without incident. Magos was later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for murder. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Master Investigator Cornett at 951-955-1700.

Alexander Magos

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department wants to remind residents to be aware of the dangers of illicit narcotics, many of which may contain Fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 100 times stronger than morphine and can cause death or serious bodily harm.
