LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A former teacher at Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore was convicted this month of sex crimes against one of his female students.
Russell Warren Strange, 60, of Canyon Lake was found guilty on July 15 of five counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years old and five counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object on a minor, all felonies. He was acquitted of five counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 years old and three counts of unlawful intercourse by a person over 21, Riverside County court records show.
Strange was arrested Nov. 9, 2018, at TCHS on suspicion of having an eight-month-long, improper relationship with a student.
The relationship began in 1999 when the student was 14 years old and Strange was in his mid-30s. He was her basketball and softball coach and her history teacher, according to court records.
The student was an adult when the complaint was filed with the sheriff’s department.
Strange is scheduled for sentencing in September.
