Riverside County Animal Shelters Celebrate Over 200 Dog Adoptions and Transports in One Weekend

Date:

Riverside County Animal Shelters are celebrating a major success after more than 200 dogs found homes or were transported to shelters across the country over the weekend.

The effort began Friday when 72 dogs—primarily large breeds that had been waiting in shelters for months—were flown out to shelters in New York and Maine. The goal of the transport was to give these dogs a better chance at adoption in regions with higher demand for shelter pets.

Then on Saturday, the county’s main shelter in Harupa Valley stayed open late for one of its popular midnight adoption events. The extended hours paid off in a big way, with more than 150 dogs adopted in just one night.

Shelter staff called the weekend a major success and say they’re encouraged by the response from the community. They hope to maintain this positive momentum and continue finding homes for more animals.
