On December 23, 2021, at 7:00 A.M., the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT), with the assistance of the Southern Coachella Valley Community Service District Team, served a search warrant at a residence located in the 91-700 block of Avenue 66 in the unincorporated community of Mecca.  The search warrant stemmed from a weapons investigation CCAT was conducting.  During the search of the residence, a non-serialized California non-compliant rifle, a non-serialized handgun, extended magazines, and ammunition, were located and seized.  

Alonso Espinoza

A 17-year-old male was arrested for minor in possession of ammunition, minor in possession of a firearm, and possession of an unregistered firearm.  The minor was booked at the Indio Juvenile Hall.  Also arrested was Alonso Espinoza, a 24-year-old resident of Mecca, for possession of a non-serialized California non-compliant rifle, possession of an unregistered firearm, and committing a felony while out on bail.  Espinoza was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center.
