A partnership between UPholdings and nonprofit Self-Help Enterprises has secured a financing package totaling $40.6 million for Finca Serena, an 80-unit affordable and supportive housing project in Porterville, Calif. The property will serve formerly unhoused as well as low-income residents.

Once upon a time, President Joe Biden was against vaccine mandates. As president-elect in December 2020, he was asked, "Do you want vaccines to be mandatory?" His answer at the time seemed clear, "No I don't think it should be mandatory, I wouldn't demand it be mandatory." But that was then, and this is now.

The spotlight is once again on the State of California and its proposed new mathematics framework for grades K-12. The proposed framework would "de-mathematize math" and encourage the use of a "trauma-informed pedagogy," as an open letter to Governor Gavin Newsom signed by more than 900 professors of math and science from across California put it. The framework also rejects the idea of natural or innate giftedness among children and discourages allowing students to be placed into accelerated courses even if they have mastered the material covered in the course.
