Matteu (Matt) D. Daniels, Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) Regional Manager, has been awarded one of this year's honorable mentions by the Association for Community Affiliated plans (ACAP). Nominated for the Leadership in Advocacy Award by Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), Daniels was recognized for his decade-long partnership and immense dedication to providing healthcare access to underserved populations in the community.

American Airlines announced it will begin service from Ontario International Airport (ONT) to Chicago in August, yet another milestone in the Southern California airport's steady recovery from the coronavirus pandemic which continues to depress air travel around the world. The Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier began ticket sales today for the twice-a-day flights between ONT and O'Hare International Airport (ORD), a growing hub in the American's system.

The latest Paychex | IHS Markit Business Employment Watch shows that small business hiring held mostly steady in February. The Small Business Jobs Index moderated -0.03 percent to 93.97. Wages are trending in a positive direction to begin 2021. Both hourly earnings and weekly hours worked had two consecutive months of growth. Hourly earnings growth increased to 2.91 percent, and hours worked growth improved 0.37 percent. Weekly earnings growth also rose above three percent for the first time since September 2020.

The Soboba Tribal TANF Program Prevention Resource Center (PRC) is currently running its Tribal Cháamcha Lówwivuktum (TCL) activities virtually and as take-home projects for its 12- to 19-year-old participants. February was dedicated to the topic of Online Safety Awareness. Program Specialist II Olga Gomez Munoz said the PRC staff takes many things into consideration when choosing TCL activities and topics. “We surveyed youth in the beginning of fall 2020 asking what they would be interested in participating in for our TCLs this year,” she said. “Based on their interests, we choose activities that we can adapt into either a take-home or virtual activity. We try to focus on topics that currently affect our youth demographic to promote awareness.” She said that PRC staff, which includes Regional Prevention Manager Harold Arres, actively participate in various webinars and trainings targeted at professionals working with youth and at-risk youth.

Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) is offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to those who qualify under Tiers 1a and 1b. The vaccines will be given on a first-come, first-served basis via online registration only. Only those who qualify under Tiers 1a and 1b may register, which includes those 65 and older; those working in specific health care fields; law enforcement; education and childcare workers.
