Details:

On July 27, 2023, about 6:33 AM, deputies assigned to the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station responded to the undeveloped desert area near Bonita Avenue and Elm Street in Cabazon regarding an unknown trouble. Deputies learned a male victim had been in an argument with a male suspect. The suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Sergio Gutierrez, struck the victim with a large piece of wood and stabbed the victim multiple times. Gutierrez fled the scene prior to deputies arriving. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

On August 1, 2023, Gutierrez was located in Cabazon and arrested for the assault. Gutierrez was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for attempted murder.
