Newsom moves to dismantle California’s death row by moving all condemned inmates to other prisons

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who three years ago placed a moratorium on executions, now is moving to dismantle the nation's largest death row by moving all condemned inmates to other prisons within two years.

California Firefighter Fatally Shot While Responding to Fire

A veteran central California firefighter was fatally shot Monday when he and others responded to a report of a dumpster fire and authorities arrested a suspect, officials said.

FATAL CRASH NEAR KING OF HAMMERS

A San Jacinto man was fatally injured in an off-highway vehicle crash Saturday (January 29) near the King of the Hammers area. According to a CHP press release, on January 29, shortly before 3 p.m., Christian Karnes, 27 of San Jacinto, was driving a black and red 2022 Polaris Razor westbound up a steep sand dune with a passenger, identified as Maribel Gonzalez, 27 also of San Jacinto.

Gang Member Arrested for Illegally Possessed Firearm

On Wednesday, February, 2022, the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force conducted a parole compliance check at a residence in the 85000 block of Cairo Avenue in Coachella. Upon arrival to the residence, the parolee, convicted felon and documented criminal street gang member Pedro Gonzalez 24 of Coachella, fled the residence through a bedroom window and ran to a residence next door.

Homicide / Missing Person

In December of 2019, family members of Katherine Mary Neitzke, a 33-year old from Hemet, reported her missing after not being able to contact her. Investigators from the Perris Station began to investigate the disappearance of Neitzke.
