A Southern California man who fatally tortured a Chihuahua puppy and posted a video about it online was sentenced Monday to two years in federal prison.
The number of hate crimes reported last year in Los Angeles County was the highest in 12 years, led by a spike in racial crimes, the county Commission on Human Relations said Wednesday in an annual report.
On November 9, 2021, at 5:58 a.m., deputies from the Hemet Station responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 26400 block of Columbia St., in unincorporated Hemet. Upon arrival, they found a male in front of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical aid was provided, and the victim was transported to a local hospital.
On October 7, 2021, Moreno Valley Station deputies responded to a report of a past commercial burglary in the 13000 block of Perris Boulevard, city of Moreno Valley. The Moreno Valley Station Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation and began following up on all leads. During the investigation, Jaime Diaz, a 30-year-old resident of Perris was identified as the suspect in multiple commercial burglaries in the city of Moreno Valley.
