On February 8, 2022, Investigators from the Central Homicide Unit continued their investigation. A 16 year-old Hispanic male, resident of Oasis was booked into Juvenile Hall for murder. Details:

On February 7, 2022, at 03:09 a.m., deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of an unresponsive male subject lying on the ground in the 91800 block of Avenue 66 in Mecca. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male victim with trauma to his body consistent with a homicide. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and investigators from the Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Through the investigation, the victim was identified as Gabriel Cervantes, a 28-year-old male resident of Mecca. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
