Details:

On October 15, 2022, at 3:10 AM, deputies from the Hemet Sheriff station responded to the 200 block of Soboba Road in Hemet regarding a report of an unresponsive male subject in the roadway. Upon their arrival, they located a male, later identified as Juan Antonio Ruiz, a 40-year-old resident of San Jacinto, deceased in the road. Based on initial observations, it was believed the incident was a hit and run traffic collision. Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded, taking the primary role and investigating the incident as a hit and run.

Around 10:30 AM, Hemet Station investigators received information the incident was a homicide. Based on the new information, investigators from the Hemet Station and the Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation from the California Highway Patrol.

No suspects have been arrested at this time. This is an active investigation and no additional details are currently available. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages anyone with information or video regarding the incident to contact Investigator Navarette of Central Homicide at 951-955-2777.
