NEW YORK (AP) — Students can safely sit just 3 feet apart in the classroom as long as they wear masks but should be kept the usual 6 feet away from one another at sporting events, assemblies, lunch or chorus practice, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday in relaxing its COVID-19 guidelines.

The increased time spent at home during the pandemic has resulted in many people deciding to tackle home renovation projects. From creating a new office space or virtual learning area, to larger projects like bathroom renovations, many homeowners are rolling up their sleeves to do the improvements themselves. And the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Ray Welch of Orange, California, found a "priceless pearl" nearly two decades ago. Since then, his life has never been the same. He left behind a life in law enforcement as a frequent SWAT-team negotiator and found peace after discovering truths about God and began drawing close to Him. While Welch always sought to serve others, "the opportunity of serving God has had no comparison," he said. Welch is not alone.

The Hemet/San Jacinto Student of the Month program recently recognized seven local high school seniors for demonstrating character, integrity, love of learning, involvement in school activities, athletics and community service. Students were nominated by teachers or other school personnel for making a difference in their home, school and community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic limitations for public gatherings, the event was held virtually on March 11. About 60 participants logged onto the Zoom meeting where students shared their stories and sponsors and administrators offered their support.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A year after the pandemic forced California to shut down, about 90% of the state's nearly 40 million residents can enjoy a restaurant meal indoors, watch a movie in a theater and sweat it out inside a gym after more counties were authorized to open up for business thanks to slowing coronavirus infection rates.
