(Vehicular Homicide Charge)
RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Vehicular homicide and other charges are expected to be filed today against a 20-year-old Pomona man accused of causing the death of his car’s passenger while allegedly fleeing from sheriff’s deputies in San Jacinto nearly two years ago.

Christian Pinon on Thursday was also arrested on suspicion of evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer stemming from an investigation into a car crash that happened after deputies shut down an illegal sideshow at Agua Mansa Road and Brown Avenue on Sept. 29, 2018, sheriff’s officials said. A sideshow is an informal gathering of car enthusiasts who often shut down city streets to perform dangerous car tricks in front of spectators.
Pinion is expected to be arraigned by video Monday from lockup at the Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he remains in lieu of $1 million bail.
According to Sgt. Ernie Esquibel of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, arriving deputies saw and attempted to pull over Pinon’s 2006 Pontiac GTO, which was being driven erratically in the intersection.
The GTO initially stopped, but then sped off and almost hit two sheriff’s patrol vehicles before crashing down the street. A man in the car died due to his injuries. His name was not immediately available.
Following a lengthy investigation, Pinon was arrested in Dana Point in Orange County, jail records show.
