The need to work and scant supports fuel COVID-19 disparities among Latinos

Fear of losing jobs, distrust of the medical community and close-knit housing conditions have led to higher rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths among California's Latinos. Experts point to the economic realities faced by many Latino families as well as longstanding inequities to explain why the pandemic has hit this community so hard.

VA dedicates Cheyenne National Cemetery in Wyoming

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today dedicated a new national cemetery in Laramie County, Wyoming. VA Secretary Robert Wilkie unveiled the dedication plaque for Cheyenne National Cemetery, the first national cemetery in the state.

Possession of a Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle – October 11, 2020

On Sunday, October 11, 2020, at 2:57 A.M., members of the Moreno Valley Station’s Special Enforcement Team conducted an occupied vehicle check in the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies contacted, Michael Winns, a 29-year-old resident of Moreno Valley and documented criminal street gang member. Winns gave deputies consent to search his vehicle. A subsequent search of Winns’ vehicle revealed a loaded semi-automatic handgun underneath the driver’s seat.

Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm – October 10, 2020

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, at 2:32 A.M., members of the Moreno Valley Station’s Special Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop in the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies contacted, Anthony Corniel, a 29-year-old resident of Moreno Valley and documented criminal street gang member. Upon contacting Corniel, deputies saw a loaded semi-automatic handgun in plain view on the passenger’s seat of the vehicle. A subsequent search of Corniel’s vehicle revealed numerous fake identification cards and altered disability checks.

Illegal Marijuana Grow Operation – October 9, 2020

In the beginning of October, deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Stations Problem Oriented Policing Team received information regarding a possible illegal marijuana cultivation occurring within the City of Lake Elsinore, in the area known as Rosetta Canyon.
