The grim milestone, as tallied by Johns Hopkins University, wasn’t entirely unexpected in a state with 40 million residents but its speed stunning. The state only reached 2 million reported cases on Dec. 24.

Fatal Traffic Collision

On January 14, 2021, about 8:37 P.M, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department - Perris Station, responded to a report of a major injury traffic collision in the area of Goetz Road and Mapes Road, in the city of Perris. Deputies arrived within minutes and located a collision involving an adult male bicyclist.

Fugitive Arrest

On January 15, 2021, at 8:10 P.M., deputies assigned to the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT), conducted an occupied vehicle check in the desert area north of Vista Del Norte and west of Dillon Road in the city of Coachella. Ezequiel Ortega Nava, 46 of Thermal, was found to be armed with a firearm and fled from deputies into a palm field.
