Firearms Related Arrest – On November 6, 2020

On November 6, 2020 at 6:53 PM, Gang Task Force personnel conducted a vehicle check at the Coachlight Motel at 1640 W. Florida Ave., Hemet. During the investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted and a loaded 9mm handgun and over 400 grams of marijuana was found. The occupants of the vehicle, Brandy Bics and Joseph Hernandez, were detained. Bics had a felony warrant for her arrest. The investigation lead task force officers to Bics’ and Hernandez’ motel room at the Coachlight Motel where an illegal assault rifle, high capacity magazine, other weapons, and drug paraphernalia were found. During the investigation, Bics provided a false name to avoid arrest. Hernandez is a convicted felon and was also out on bail for a previous firearms related crimes.

The Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force has been in existence since April 2006. The Law

Enforcement Agencies within “The Valley” have been working together since this time on a daily basis. The Hemet/San Jacinto Gang Task Force is comprised of members from the Hemet Police Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Riverside County Probation Department, and the California

Highway Patrol. The Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force operates in the Cities of Hemet, San Jacinto, and the unincorporated areas of Hemet. The law enforcement leadership within the valley meets regularly and coordinates the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force activities. Since the formation of the task force, leadership has recognized the importance of working together to provide the highest level of service for the citizens within the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley.

The Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force is one of six teams comprising the entire Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, which is a collaborative effort of various law enforcement agencies with the goal of combating criminal street gangs.

Kohler booked on murder, hit-run death after Palm Avenue scooter crash

Mason Drew Kohler, 31, was booked on felony murder, hit-and-run death, and DUI charges, according to the Riverside County jail roster, which lists a Hemet PD arrest at Palm Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. Hemet police say two pedestrians on an electric scooter were struck there about 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22; one was pronounced dead. Police have not named the driver, and the decedent's identity remains withheld.

San Jacinto Planning Commission recommends two annexations, including 151 homes south of Ramona Expressway

The San Jacinto Planning Commission voted 3-0 Tuesday to recommend two sphere-of-influence annexations to the City Council, including Tentative Tract Map 34271 for 151 single-family lots south of Ramona Expressway. Neither file is a completed annexation.
