Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Date:

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Dave Tinker

File # PC221960016

Details:

On Friday, July 15, 2022, at 7:40 PM, Perris Sheriff’s station deputies responded to a robbery at a local fast food restaurant located in the 23000 Block of Cajalco Road, in the unincorporated Perris area of Riverside County. The victim reported that a male suspect, later identified as Gavin Hong, a 25-year-old resident of Perris, brandished a firearm and handed the employee a note stating he was armed with a gun and knife and demanded the money. After he was given the register til with the money, Hong fled the location on foot before deputies arrived. Video surveillance showed Hong wore a black hoodie, a mask, dark colored pants, and black boots and arrived in a Gray Toyota Camry, which was still parked in the parking lot of the business. The Sheriff’s Aviation Helicopter flew overhead and located the suspect standing on the sidewalk across the street wearing different clothes. Deputies detained Hong and learned he had two Misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.

The Perris Stations’ Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation. A canvass was conducted and deputies located a black hoodie, a face mask, sunglasses, a knife, and an airsoft pistol stashed under a bush north of the location. RBST located video surveillance from a nearby business where Hong walked into the location after the robbery and went into the bathroom to change his appearance. A search of the bathroom yielded Hong’s pants and over $120 cash hidden in the toilet seat cover dispenser. Hong was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for Armed Robbery. This investigation is on-going.

Anyone with additional information is urged to call I Investigator Rooker at Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch at (951) 776-1099, or the Perris Station at (951) 210-1000.
