Two people were killed and three wounded in robberies before dawn Monday at six 7-Eleven stores in Southern California and authorities said they were seeking the same lone gunman in at least three of the crimes.
On Sunday, July 10, 2022, about 11:22 A.M., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury collision near 3986 Rubidoux Boulevard, in the city of Jurupa Valley.
On July 1, 2022, at about 4:15 PM, deputies from the San Jacinto station responded to a report of brandishing a firearm near the intersection of State Street and Idyllwild Drive in the city of San Jacinto. The investigation identified Steven Kent Cheek, a 68-year-old resident of San Jacinto, as the suspect.
On Monday, July 4, 2022, at 9:30 PM, while working Fourth of July festivities in the city of San Jacinto, deputies were notified of a report of indecent exposure near the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park. Witnesses reported a male who exposed his genitalia in public view in the area of Esplanade and Palm Avenues.
Joseph Ortega, a suspect in this investigation succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. This investigation is on-going.
