Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) invites the public to attend and participate in several virtual events during its annual celebration of Black History Month in February.
The monthlong series of free events kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The events are coordinated by the MSJC Umoja program and several groups at the college, including A2MEND, Sankofa, and Ujima.
Learn more about all of the important events and find the Zoom links on the MSJC website. Be sure to join us for one or more of the following:
• “Historically Speaking: Four Hundred Souls – A Conversation with Ibram Kendi and Keisha N. Blain.” The discussion will be presented by the National Museum of African American History & Culture. 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 2.
• “A Day of Black History Across this Nation” in which attendees can learn more about historical events through speeches and videos. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 4, 18, and 25.
• A film viewing and discussion of James Baldwin’s “I Am Not Your Negro.” 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11.
• “I Am Black History! Celebrating Our Present” panel of 10 professionals. Noon Friday, Feb. 12.
• Ubuntu “I Am because We Are,” which gives attendees an opportunity to meet some of the staff and faculty members who are doing some of the work to provide a meaningful experience for its Black and African American student population. 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 16 and 23.
• Harlem Renaissance. A focus on the fine arts that have contributed to defining Black and African American culture. This event will feature several musical and spoken pieces from MSJC students and staff highlighting this era. Feb. 26.
