Kern County’s COVID-19 new cases flat; California cases plummet 31%

California reported far fewer coronavirus cases in the week ending Sunday, adding 5,170 new cases. That's down 31% from the previous week's tally of 7,493 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

The largest of the fires, the lightning-sparked Lava fire in Siskiyou County, forced the evacuation of at least 8,000 residents Monday afternoon as gusty red flag conditions fueled the searing flames.

On June 29th, Family Service Association’s Board of Directors announced the completion of a planned leadership transition. Judith Wood, a well-respected early childhood education leader and Family Service Association executive will retire on June 30, 2021. Cheryl-Marie Hansberger, a business leader and previous Chief of Staff for former Mayor Rusty Bailey will assume the Chief Executive Officer position on July 1, 2021.

California Town Completely Without Running Water as Drought, Heat Wave Intensifies

An entire town in California is without running water as the state suffers a drought and a heat wave pushes temperatures into the triple digits. Teviston, a rural community in the San Joaquin Valley's Turea County, has been struggling since early June when the only functioning well stopped working. Since then, the more than 700 residents there have been without running water.
