San Jacinto Valley Students Honored

The Hemet/San Jacinto Student of the Month program recently recognized seven local high school seniors for demonstrating character, integrity, love of learning, involvement in school activities, athletics and community service. Students were nominated by teachers or other school personnel for making a difference in their home, school and community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic limitations for public gatherings, the event was held virtually on March 11. About 60 participants logged onto the Zoom meeting where students shared their stories and sponsors and administrators offered their support.

A Southern California family is struggling to bury a beloved veteran, father and grandfather who died from COVID-19. Manny Garcia, 49, was feeling fine up until the end of this past January. Melissa Ryan, his fiancée, says the family figured he came down with the flu.

The Wheelhouse Skating Rink in Hemet is very large, encompassing 9,000 square feet of skate surface, which is expensive to keep up whether people are skating nor not. Due to COVID 19 restrictions for the past year there has been no public skating. In order to keep the place alive and producing some income, unusual machinations have surfaced.
