On December 6, 2022, at 5:14 PM, deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff Station responded to a report of a shooting in the 14600 block of Cagney Court in Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived within minutes and located a male victim with gunshot wounds.

On December 3, 2022, at 2:30 PM, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station responded to Prospect Avenue and Spring Street in Highgrove to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies determined the victim, later identified as Julio Ortega, a 52-year-old resident of Jurupa Valley, had been shot and died from his injuries.

On November 30, 2022, Investigators identified the suspect in this homicide investigation as Diego Ernesto Brane, a 24 year-old resident of San Jacinto, who is currently in custody on an unrelated charge.

On November 22, 2022, at 6:26 PM, deputies from the Cabazon Station responded to a plane crash in the field south of the Interstate 10 Freeway, between Malki Road and Hargrave Street in the unincorporated area of Riverside County near Banning.

This investigation was determined to be a case of domestic violence, occurring shortly after child custody exchange of two twin seven year old boys. The victims in this case were identified as Esmeralda Casillas, 36 years of El Cajon (mother of the twins), and Esmeralda’s mother, Ofelia Casillas, 68 years of El Cajon.
