Now, I know that I am not the first person to say it, but that is the shortest fairy tale that one can write. It has that distant feel of a time long ago, maybe even of a land far away, and the warmth that comes with wishing for a happy ending.

In a recent TV series about a very successful law firm, located somewhere in the United States, two of the principals were discussing the possibility of starting a pro bono office to represent the poor in their community.

Dr. Stephen Marmer is a psychiatrist in Los Angeles and is affiliated with UCLA Medical Center. Years ago, I heard him on a radio talk show discussing what leads to maturity in individuals.

I remember growing up the idea of having to complete community service to graduate high school was passed around by classmates. My Mom told me that all of the volunteer work I did at the church we attended counted, and I logged those hours and turned them into my school. When I graduated, I was honored with an award and acknowledged as the "Riverside County Golden Citizen" award. It was cool to know that all of my volunteer work meant something.

You never know where and when help will come to assist someone with needs. The San Jacinto music community is abundant with musicians willing to step forward and give or raise money for good causes, and so it comes again that our locals are stepping forward to lending a helping hand.
