During the course of this investigation, a suspect was identified as Fredy Morales, 21 years of Perris. On August 30, 2023, arrest charges of murder were added to Morales, who was in custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center, on unrelated charges.

On August 26th, 2023, at 5:09 p.m., the Sheriff’s Colorado River Station deputies responded to the 13000 block of Mesa Drive in the unincorporated community of Mesa Verde in response to a robbery.

On August 20, 2023, at about 9:07 p.m., deputies assigned to the Thermal Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of a deceased male in the 53500 block of Cesar Chavez Street, Coachella. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim with gunshot wounds.

On July 3, 2023, at approximately 12:44 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence in the 26000 block of Coronada Drive in Moreno Valley regarding shots fired during a large party.

On August 14, 2023, at 12:36 a.m., deputies from the John Benoit Detention Center found an unresponsive male in a housing unit cell. Custody staff and jail medical personnel immediately administered life-saving measures. Paramedics responded and assumed life-saving measures. However, he was ultimately pronounced deceased.
