Convicted Felon Arrested for Weapon Related Charges
In December 2023, members of the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force (GTF) received information about a prior convicted felon in possession of several firearms. GTF members conducted follow-up investigation and identified the subject as 41-year-old Leroy Melgoza from Desert Hot Springs.
Fatal Traffic Collision
On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 5:04 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Bay Avenue in Moreno Valley reference a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Homicide Investigation – Suspect In-Custody
As the investigation into the homicide of Elba Estrada continued, Riverside County Sheriff’s Investigators learned that Marilyn Cardenas was the daughter of Estrada. Estrada was determined to be a resident of San Bernardino, California and Cardenas had recently relocated to the Coachella Valley.
Fatal Traffic Collision
On January 15, 2024, at 10:35 pm, deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a major-injury traffic collision on Etiwanda Avenue and Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road. Deputies located a single-vehicle collision and pronounced the driver, and sole occupant, deceased at the scene.
Fatal Medical Emergency Leads to Traffic Collision
On Saturday, January 13, 2024, around 5:44 p.m., deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station were flagged down by citizens regarding a traffic collision at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Barrington Drive, Palm Desert. Deputies responded to the area and located a two-vehicle traffic collision involving a Chrysler 300 and a Toyota Highlander.
